Professional Bio
Tekla Babyak has a PhD in Musicology from Cornell University. Currently based in Davis, CA, she is a disabled independent scholar and activist with multiple sclerosis. Her research focuses on 19th-century temporality, aesthetics, musical form, and disability studies. Recent publications include chapters in Historians Without Borders: New Studies in Multidisciplinary History (Routledge, 2019) and Rethinking Brahms (Oxford University Press, 2022), as well as articles in Current Musicology and Journal of the Royal Musical Association. She serves on committees for the Society for Music Theory, the American Musicological Society, and the Modern Language Association.
